McKillican Acquires assets of Panel Source International, Inc.

McKillican American Inc., one of North America’s largest building products distributors has completed the acquisition of the assets of Panel Source International (PSI). Started in the 1990’s, PSI has become one of the leading suppliers of sustainable and environmentally friendly wood products, including pressure and fire treated construction gradeⁱ lumber and plywood.

As sustainable green building and development practices grow, the acquisition of PSI will enhance McKillican’s position to achieve our goal of becoming the leading source of eco-friendly wood products that are specified and used in green building standards, such as LEED. The acquisition of PSI will expand our reach into the Lumber & Building Material Dealer (LBM) and Commercial Builder segment which is PSI’s primary market.

McKillican brings a much larger distribution footprint with its 21 distribution centers making product availability much more convenient for our customers. Geographically, PSI’s customers are located throughout the U.S and Canada with extensive sales into Canada and the Eastern U.S. and all these markets will continue to be serviced by McKillican.

IPE is a dense, hard, and beautiful hardwood grown in limited areas throughout South America, including Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador and Peru. IPE is legendary for its resistance to decay, with numerous applications showing the products resistance still highly effective after 50-75 years from time of installation.

IPE also holds a unique distinction, in that raw IPE lumber (without any treatment) achieves a class A level of fire resistance, the only wood species in the world to claim that ability.

FSC Certified IPE has been a difficult product to source, and after painstaking months of investigation Panel Source is happy to be able to offer our customers FSC IPE, in both lumber and decking sizes.

Panel Source just returned from Greenbuild 2008 in Boston. The show was a resounding success, with a larger attendance than last year.

"Greenbuild is a great show because it is so focused", said James Mcleod, C.O.O, of Panel Source. "People are coming there on a mission, to find green products and service, so they must use their time effectively."

The USGBCⁱ did an excellent job this year from an organizational point of view.

"This show keeps getting better and better each year, with more people and companies getting interested in green building. It is truly exciting to go to Greenbuild, it energizes our whole company until the next show" says Mcleod.

Panel Source gets FSC Certification for another 5 years

Panel Source recently completed the annual auditing process for FSCⁱ Chain of Custodyⁱ certification.

This year was special as it marked the beginning of the 5th year that Panel Source has been FSC Certified.

Panel Source has been re-certified for an additional five years. The auditor was SCSⁱ (Scientific Certification Systems).

The Chain of Custody number remains the same: SCS-CoC-00569ⁱ. Good through Aug 2013.

Demand for FSC products continues to grow at a rapid pace. Panel Source has responded by continuing to find additional sources of FSC material globally. Virtually all of Panel Sources material is FSC. Panel Source has a complete and diverse inventory selection whether you in commercial, industrial or residential green building.

Panel Source, FSC Canada and the launch of Canuhome

Last year Panel Source was given the opportunity to participate along with several other companies and FSCⁱ Canada in developing the Canuhome. This is essentially a green housing structure that incoporates many different green features. The Canuhome project has and is being showcased at various tradeshows, mainly in Ontario. The most recent show, The Green Living Show, held in Toronto was a huge success. More than 12,000 visitors toured the Canuhome. Panel Source is pleased to announce that Purekorⁱ has been verified and accepted by Green Alberta. Green Alberta is an independent third party verifier of green products for use in the construction industry in Alberta.

Specifically Purekor Platinumⁱ MDFⁱ, Purekor Platinum Plywood and Purekor Platinum Particleboardⁱ were all verified under GA's standard.

Green Alberta was started in Alberta and is going to be adopted at a national level. This certification will assist consumers in identifying what is a real green product and what is simply a product of greenwashing.

PSI Green Bulletin a Success

We are pleased to announce that industry veteran, Rick Grimm, has joined the growing ranks of Panel Source International, Inc.

Rick brings with him 30+ years in the compositeⁱ wood products industry. Having served in operations, sales and marketing, we believe that this will allow Rick to be successful in his new role as territory manager for California, Nevada, and Arizona.

Rick will be concentrating on Pyroblockⁱ and will be available for on site visits as customers trial the product.

Features of this product include FSC Certification, and no added urea formaldehydeⁱ.

This product is classified as "FSC PURE" per the rules of FSC.

Purekorⁱ Poplar Plywood is available in 6.0 mm(1/4"), 9.0 mm(3/8"), 12.0 mm(1/2"), 15.0 mm(9/16"), 16.0 mm(5/8"), 17.5 mm(11/16"), 19.0 mm(3/4"), 25.0 mm(1"), 28.0 mm(1 1/8"), and 32 mm (1 1/4").

Panel Source International Inc. is happy to announce the successful implementation of the first ever ‘FSC for Free’ promotion, offered to Lumbermens Merchandising Corporation (LMC) dealers at LMC’s annual tradeshow held in Houston TX in the beginning of March.
